Breakfast this morning was an herb-coated cheddar cheese from Steamboat Island Cheese. I bought it yesterday at Longview Produce Company on California Way in Longview.
I tried a sample of it weeks ago but bought a different cheese that day. I'm not sure it had the same herbs, or if they change them depending on season or availability -- I remember the sample being different, but I'm not sure.
This one was coated with dried lavender blossoms, which gives a wonderful but unexpected flavor. If you didn't know what it was, you might not be able to identify it. It blends beautifully with the cheese. The cheddar is mild and nutty rather than sharp, and the combination is excellent.
Breakfast today was Akmak crackers with herbed cheddar. Mmm.
It will be interesting to see how the flavor changes if it is gently melted. It needs to be something delicate, say, an omelet, or melted cheese on toast or crackers.
